How to install the gate blowout preventer correctly?
The correct installation of the gate blowout preventer is crucial for ensuring the smooth progress of drilling operations and preventing blowout accidents. The following will provide a detailed introduction to the installation steps and precautions of the gate blowout preventer, aiming to provide readers with a clear and detailed installation guide.
1、 Preparation before installation
Before installing the gate blowout preventer, a series of preparatory work needs to be carried out to ensure a smooth installation process. Firstly, it is necessary to check whether the model, specifications, and quantity of the gate blowout preventer meet the design requirements, and whether there are any damaged or missing components. Secondly, check whether the four-way and steel ring components connected to the gate valve blowout preventer are intact, and whether the size matches the blowout preventer. Finally, check whether each control gate is flexible and reliable, and whether the manifold pressure gauge is within the calibration period.
2、 Installation steps
Cleaning and lubrication: Before installation, the gate valve and the steel ring groove and steel ring of the four-way valve should be cleaned thoroughly, and lubricating grease should be evenly applied to reduce friction and wear during installation.
Lifting and positioning: Use appropriate lifting equipment to lift the gate blowout preventer to the wellhead, taking care not to damage the steel ring. During the lifting process, it should be ensured that the position of the blowout preventer is correct for subsequent connection and fixation.
Connection and fixation: Connect the gate blowout preventer to the four-way valve to ensure a tight and leak free connection. During the connection process, appropriate bolts and nuts should be used, and all connecting bolts should be tightened diagonally to ensure that the remaining threads on both ends of the bolts are evenly distributed. At the same time, for wells where drilling platforms (or operation platforms) are installed, the hydraulic control gate blowout preventer should be equipped with manual operating rods and extended out of the operation platform. The end of the handwheel should be firmly supported, and the angle between its center and the locking shaft should not exceed 30 °.
Post installation inspection: After installation, a comprehensive inspection of the gate blowout preventer should be conducted, including whether the connection parts are tightened, whether the sealing performance is good, and whether the operating rod is flexible. At the same time, it is also necessary to check whether the manual locking device is installed correctly and operated flexibly.
Pressure testing and debugging: After installation, a water pressure test should be conducted to verify the sealing performance and reliability of the connection parts of the gate valve blowout preventer. During the pressure test, gradually increase the pressure and observe whether there is any leakage at each connection point. After passing the pressure test, each type of gate valve should be tested twice on the drilling rig and remote control console to check whether the switch is consistent with the actual situation, whether the pipeline connection is correct, and to eliminate the air in the oil circuit. In addition, manual locking devices should be used to close and lock the gate to verify its flexibility and reliability.
3、 Precautions
It is strictly prohibited to release the pressure inside the well by opening the gate. Before each opening of the gate, check whether the manual locking device is unlocked. After opening, check whether the gate is fully open and retract into the shell. Do not stay in the middle position to prevent the drilling tool from damaging the gate.
When opening and closing the side door, the control manifold oil pressure should be released first to prevent damage to the "O" ring of the hinge shaft. When the side door bolts are not properly fastened, it is not allowed to open or close the gate to avoid damaging the gate, gate shaft or hinge.
To protect the safety of the wellhead, it is not allowed to open both side doors at the same time, regardless of whether the gate blowout preventer is fixed on the wellhead flange.
By following the above installation steps and precautions, the correct installation and reliable operation of the gate blowout preventer can be ensured, providing strong safety guarantees for drilling operations.
